Dornier DO 335 1:21 Kit - 645mm Ref: A-WW01 Twin engine, rubber-powered models are notoriously hard to fly, but by choosing the West Wings Dornier 335, you can have a twin with no vices. Having both motors in line prevents asymmetric thrust problems and with each propeller rotating in opposition there are no 'torque' turning worries either. In fact, it's hard to envisage a more optimum power installation. The kit is supplied with two plastic propellers, but you can make your own 3-bladers from the supplied components. This is very easy to do and highly satisfying. The kit requires all formers to be cut from pre-printed sheets and as such, a little care and finesse is necessary. The fuselage 'shell' halves are then built up over the plan before being joined together at the end. Like all similar structures, the strength is derived from the tissue covering. Wings are conventional and each is built over the plan before 'butt' joining to the fuselage. Scale refinements such as exhaust stacks, carburettor scoops and the undercarriage are detailed on the plan, and a set of waterslide decals are provided for that finishing touch. Despite that elliptical shape, the wing still retains good slow speed performance and is not prone to tip stalling. Construction is in three sections to faithfully recreate the shape of the original. F117A Stealth 1:33 Glider Kit 401mm Ref: A-WW06 The West Wings Stealth Fighter captures all the design features of the original, yet with little modification to the overall shape, still provides excellent flying characteristics. In fact, the only obvious design departure is the adoption of a little dihedral. Our Stealth Fighter is built flat on the plan from a mixture of formers (cut from printed sheets) and balsa strip. The main fuselage/centre section is in one piece with the outer wing panels being 'butt' joined to it. The finished model then has a large effective wing area with a basically, flat-bottomed wing section. As a glider it is amazingly efficient and has a very shallow glide ratio. Even on the towline, she remains stable and really looks the part. Details are given on the plan for a clip on 'rubber power' conversion, which provides true one-man flying from flat fields. Just unclip it and you've got a glider again. The choice just adds to the flying flexibility. Westland Widgeon 1:18 Kit - 616mm Ref: A-WW10 Our Widgeon faithfully reproduces the original, right down to the negative tail incidence. Yes, negative, just in case owners thought it was a mistake! It's all a matter of balancing the various incidences to get the right flying performance. Who are we to argue with Westland about their design! Construction starts with cutting out the pre-printed balsa components from their balsa sheets and then combining them with plan and strip in the time honoured fashion. Like all our kits, you can use Cyano glue or one of the specialist Aliphatics like Deluxe Superphatic. This glue is ideal for our kits as it adds little extra weight and can be used a bit like Cyano. The kit contains all the required items of hardware such as wire, wheels, propeller, rubber and tissue covering. As is usual with this kind of kit, you will still need to purchase glue, dope and maybe lightweight paint.
